It's Friday the 13th and there are many who feel superstitious and many who feel lucky. Although it is unclear when or why Friday the 13th because associated with bad luck we do know that the number 13 and Friday are recurring presences in mythological, spiritual and religious tradition.
The fear of 13 has spread far and wide and it's called Paraskevidekatriaphobia. Hotels and hospitals often skip the 13th floor, and even airports quietly omit gate 13 sometimes. But for many pagans, 13 is actually a lucky number because it corresponds with the number of full moons in a year and great things can happen on Friday the 13th such as the birth of a child or a marriage.
Did you know that this is the 3rd Friday the 13th this year? This only happens every few years. The last one was in 2009 and the next one will be in 2015 and they will fall in February, March and November. For the first time since 1984 the three Friday the 13th's fell on Jan. 13, April 13 and now July 13 and they are exactly 13 weeks apart. But there is something extra special about 2012 and Friday the 13th! This happened during a leap year, and this won't happen during another leap year until 2040, and in a 400 year period the 13th falls on a Friday more than any other day and it happens to be 688 times!
Happy Birthday Daddy!
